Rovers deny Ronaldinho reports

Blackburn have denied reports that they could be ready to make an audacious bid to land AC Milan star Ronaldinho in the transfer window.

Rovers' new owners Venky's claimed on their Facebook and Twitter accounts that they had offered the 30-year-old Brazil international a two-year deal.

But director Venkatesh Rao has moved to distance the Ewood Park outfit from making an improbable swoop for the two-time World Footballer of the Year.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "That is not true. There is no interest at all, they are just rumours.

Rovers manager Steve Kean has, however, been promised the money to make 'quality' signings this month.

Rao continued: "We are still finalising possible signings but hopefully we can come out into the press and make things clearer in a week.

"Discussions are still going on and meetings are going on.

"Money is not the criteria at all though, we do not mind about the money.

"It is about getting the right players for Blackburn Rovers and we have enough money to do that.

"That is not a problem. We want to bring quality to Blackburn Rovers."

Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto de Assis was quoted in Monday's Daily Mirror claiming that Rovers had been in touch about a possible deal for his client.

He said: "Blackburn have contacted us. There is also other interest in England but this is confidential."

The Brazil playmaker has six months remaining of his contract at the San Siro but Milan are willing to sell this month for a price of eight millions euros (£6.8m).

Brazilian side Gremio appear keen to sign the 30-year-old, although they were initially thought to be confident of securing their former player on a free transfer which no longer seems to be the case.

De Assis added: "We will arrive in Porto Alegre in order to negotiate with Gremio, but nothing is decided.

"If we do not reach an agreement with a a club in Brazil then he will return to Milan as he is still a Milan player. We are not ruling anything out."
