Giuseppe Rossi scored twice and assisted on another goal as Villarreal beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 to reach the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday.

Italy striker Rossi scored a penalty in the 25th minute before flicking on to set Marco Ruben free in the 64th to slot a shot under goalkeeper Ivan Kelava. Rossi scored his third of the competition in the 80th at El Madrigal Stadium.

Kelava saved substitute Marcos Senna's penalty in the 87th after Igor Biscan was red-carded for blocking Jefferson Montero's goal-bound shot with his arm.

With one round to play, Spanish club Villarreal leads Group D with nine points, PAOK has eight points, Dinamo Zagreb has seven and Brugge has no chance of reaching the next stage on three points. Villarreal cannot finish out of the top two after Brugge held Greek club PAOK to 1-1.

Villarreal started terribly but Fatos Beciraj's 14th-minute shot deflected onto the post.

Milan Badelj moved free into the area moments later but Luis Ibanez fanned his shot from inside the box with only 'keeper Diego Lopez to beat.

Rossi converted after Kelava was harshly booked for tripping up Ruben inside the area.

Rossi was Villarreal's most dangerous threat as he forced Kelava into a tough stop before halftime and again after a slick buildup in the 53rd.

Villarreal controlled the second half as Cani hit the near post after Rossi played him through just before Ruben scored.

Kelava dove to push Senna's swerving drive wide in the 64th before making two more stops on Rossi.

Substitute Nilmar's first touch put Rossi free into the area to beat Kelava with an angled shot for the third.

Kelava was all that kept the hosts a worse loss as he saved Senna's penalty before denying Santi Cazorla in the 90th.

Villarreal plays last-place Brugge and PAOK needs a draw against Dinamo Zagreb to ensure it advances.
