Romario blasts FIFA officials

Brazil congressman and former international Romario is blasting a proposed law he says gives FIFA too many powers in the 2014 World Cup.

He and other lawmakers are debating a proposed law the federal government says would deliver on final commitments made to FIFA to win the right to host the Cup.

At issue are commercial rights, how tickets are sold, and the selling of alcohol in stadiums during the Confederations Cup and the World Cup.

Brazilian law forbids alcohol sales in stadiums during matches. It also states that students and senior citizens pay only half price for tickets.

But the proposed law would let FIFA sponsors who sell alcohol do business in stadiums. And it would give FIFA control over how tickets are sold.
