Roma have warned Manchester United and other potential suitors that central midfielder Kevin Strootman is not for sale.

Earlier this month Goal reported that United were confident of securing a £25 million deal for the 24-year-old Holland international in January as they continue to spend big in search of a return to the Champions League.

Strootman has not played for Roma yet this season as he continues to recover from a cruciate ligament injury which kept him sidelined for the tail end of 2013-14 and forced him to miss the World Cup.

But despite rumors that Roma would part with Strootman for 75m euros ($96.4m), club chief Mauro Baldissoni has followed up the public insistence of sporting director Walter Sabatini earlier this month and dismissed the notion that the Dutchman will be offloaded in January.

"We can't wait to see Strootman back on the field, because we really miss him and that moment is getting closer," the Giallorossi's general director told Sky Sport Italia.

"We are proud to have Strootman in our squad and he is not for sale."

Roma have started the season in perfect fashion, topping Serie A with three wins in as many games and opening their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 thrashing of CSKA Moscow.

In contrast, Van Gaal's United are just two points off the bottom of the Premier League table after five games and have been dumped out of the League Cup by third-tier club MK Dons.
