Newly called-up Italy forward Fabio Borini scored his seventh goal in eight matches and Roma won 1-0 at Palermo on Saturday to jump back ahead of Inter Milan into sixth place.

Borini scored three minutes in at the Renzo Barbera stadium, collecting a pass from Erik Lamela before coolly slotting the ball past Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano from the center of the area.

Roma moved one point ahead of Inter, which beat Chievo Verona 2-0 Friday, although the Giallorossi still trail Serie A leader AC Milan by 13 points.

The 20-year-old Borini made his Italy debut in last week's 1-0 friendly loss to the United States. He has now scored nine goals in the last two months and could gain a spot on Italy's European Championship squad if Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi don't return in time from health problems.

Palermo protested for an evident last-man foul by Gabriel Heinze on Abel Hernandez in the 70th, but the referee gave Heinze only a yellow card and Fabrizio Miccoli failed to score from the ensuing free kick.

Palermo has lost three straight games, including a 4-0 rout by Milan last weekend. Roma ended a two-match losing streak that included a 2-1 derby loss to Lazio last weekend.
