Roma have failed in an appeal to overturn the partial closure of the south stand of the Stadio Olimpico, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has confirmed.
The capital club were originally fined 50,000 euros (?42,500) by the Lega Serie A after a section of fans directed racist abuse at AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli during a goalless draw with Rossoneri at San Siro in May.
Several supporters appeared to ignore the warning, however, singing abusive songs about the former Manchester City striker during a subsequent meeting with Napoli and inspiring the Lega to order the Stadio Olimpico's south stand closed to supporters for Roma's next home league game.
And today saw the FIGC's court of justice announce that Roma's appeal had failed.
A statement published on figc.it read: "The court of justice has rejected Roma's appeal and confirms the closure of the Curva Sud (south stand) for the first home game of the season.
"The 50,000 euro fine is also confirmed."
The Curva Sud can hold 8,486 people and typically houses Roma's hardcore fans - or 'ultras'.
