Rodgers insists he won't change Liverpool's style of play next season
Brendan Rodgers insists he will not change Liverpool's style of play despite missing out on the Premier League title.
Liverpool saw their brave challenge for the Premier League end on Sunday when they finished second to winners Manchester City, two points adrift of the champions.
Liverpool's defensive problems have been blamed for their failure to secure the title as they conceded 50 goals this season despite scoring 101 goals.
Rodgers, however, will continue to set out his side to attack next season and is confident they will be in the frame to challenge for the title next term with some new additions to the squad.
"We play to win. The philosophy will not change next season," said Rodgers.
"There is no fear here.
"We have got back to where the club should be. It's been a wonderful campaign for our growth and development.
"It's been incredible to see the supporters and to see the power of the club and the institution that is Liverpool.
"I think we have made them dream and that's our job to do that and the great thing is we will improve.
"We know the areas we need to improve on and we will be better. We will come back mentally and technically ready for next season.
"It's a young group and we will add more players to be ready to fight again."
Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness believes defensive problems was the main reason for Liverpool missing out on the title.
Souness also excused Steven Gerrard of any blame for letting the destiny of the title slip out of their hands in the final three games.
"Gerrard should be devastated because Liverpool were in the box seat and had their destiny in their own hands - but he shouldn't be disappointed with himself as he has carried that team for many years," Souness told Sky Sports.
"He has been a worldly and one of the greatest Liverpool players in history - and his slip against Chelsea was not the reason Manchester City won the Premier League, it was letting in goals."
Gerrard admitted he was "absolutely devastated" after missing out on the chance to get his hands on the title.
"I'm absolutely devastated," Gerrard told Sky Sports. "Personally gutted and gutted for the fans. They've been magnificent but we can't be too down because it's been a fantastic season and we need to bounce back for next year and try and go one better."
"It took me until I'm 33 to get the experience of a proper title race so the experience for these young lads is going to be vital and there is a lot of ability in the squad. It's growing and it's moving forward and hopefully we can keep improving it."
