Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has backed Daniel Sturridge to become one the best strikers in the Premier League after his hat-trick against Fulham.

January signing Sturridge netted the first hat-trick of his career to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 win at Fulham as they came from behind to take all three points.

Sturridge's treble took his tally to 11 goals in 15 games for Liverpool and Rodgers believes the future is bright for the England international.

"He's scored goals from the minute he has come in and that is 11 goals in 15 games which is a fantastic impact which we hoped he would make," Rodgers told Sky Sports.

"His first goal was a brilliant finish with his right foot, the second one he just guided in and the third goal was an incredible pass form young Coutinho, he really has a magical touch and the finish over Schwarzer was not easy

"He's a great talent and I think he will prove if he stays fit and plays games to be one of the top strikers in the Premier League in the next few years."

Rodgers also praised Coutinho after another eye-catching performance from the skilful Brazilian.

"He's a great technician with an eye for a pass," added Rodgers. "His weight of pass is very, very good at only 20 years of age he has great feet, great vision and his touch of the ball is magical."

Rodgers admits this season was about building a base from what they can improve on next season and he sees signs of promise for next term/

"The players have been working very, very hard this year and it's been about building a base for us to move forward and as we have gone through the season we have got better and better.
