France winger Franck Ribery will fly to Germany to have a groin operation on Friday following the squad's return from its humiliating World Cup exit.

France spokesman Francois Manardo says Ribery is going directly to Munich on a private plane charted by his club side Bayern Munich.

Ribery set up France's only goal at the World Cup with a pass to Florent Malouda in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to host nation South Africa.

France exited the tournament without winning a game.
