Robbie Fowler's career in Australian football's A-League may be over after his current club agreed to sign another player, leaving no room for the former England forward under the salary cap.
The Sydney Morning Herald said the 36-year-old Fowler may return to England if he is unable to find an Australian club willing to match the reported $750,000 he earned last year in Perth.
The newspaper says Perth is set to sign New Zealand striker Shane Smeltz to a three-year deal worth $1.2 million.
The cap for each team is at $2.35 million.

Fowler came to Australia two years ago to join North Queensland before he moved to Perth. He scored nine goals in each of his two A-League seasons.
Smeltz has scored 42 goals in 66 A-League games.
