Manchester City CEO Garry Cook may not discover his fate at the EPL club until he returns from the US early next week, unless he opts to resign before then over claims he sent an insulting email to the cancer-stricken mother of defender Nedum Onuoha, The (London) Times reported Wednesday.
City's Arab owners are determined to leave no stone unturned as they mount a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The club is also in the process of going through IT records to assess the veracity of Cook's claims that the offending message was sent to Dr. Anthonia Onuoha by another employee at the club who had hacked into his account while he was on holiday in South Africa.
City's executive committee team, which includes Khaldoon al Mubarak, the club's chairman, and Simon Pearce, the strategic communications director of the Executive Affairs Authority -- a policy arm of the Abu Dhabi government -- are also consulting the legal and human resources departments as the scrutiny on Cook intensifies.
Anthonia Onuoha, who had already written letters of complaint to the Football Association and the EPL, was also reported to have written to Mubarak to demand an explanation and apology for the email, which mocked her year-long battle with cancer and appeared to be sent from Cook's personal iPad.
Cook has not been suspended or placed on gardening leave and it remains to be seen if a member of the City hierarchy will fly to Oregon, where Cook is visiting his family, to discuss the matter in person.
It had been agreed weeks ago that Cook would miss City's Premier League game at home to Wigan Athletic on Saturday. His American-born wife recently returned to the US so that the couple's children could attend school there.
