PARIS (AP) Rennes won 2-0 away to newly-promoted Angers in the French league on Friday to end a seven-match unbeaten run and move provisionally up to sixth place.

The Brittany side had started the season brightly, winning four of the first five matches, but this was under-pressure coach Philippe Montanier's first league win since Sept. 13.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure put Rennes ahead in the fourth minute and Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes made it 2-0 in the 61st.

Rennes has 20 points after 13 rounds, two less than Angers, which is in fourth place ahead of this weekend's matches.
