Red Bulls play 1-1 draw with Atlas

Rafael Marquez converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give the New York Red Bulls a 1-1 draw against top-level Mexican club Atlas in an exhibition match Tuesday night at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Atlas had taken a 1-0 lead when Edgar Pacheco scored from just inside the goal box on a shot deflected off a defender in the 78th minute.
The game was the final preseason match for New York, which opens the MLS season on March 19 at home against Seattle.
In a game that saw few quality scoring chances, Atlas pushed an attack with Pacheco getting the ball on the right and shooting from about 15 yards out, glancing off New York defender Tim Ream past goalkeeper Bouna Condoul for the game's first goal.
Atlas was whistled for a foul just inside the box in the 88th minute, leading to the penalty by Marquez.
