Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith scored goals for Rangers in a 2-0 win over St. Johnstone, lifted the reigning champions provisionally to the top of the Scottish Premier League on Tuesday.

Lafferty broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when he pounced on a defensive mistake to round goalkeeper Peter Enckelman and slot the ball into an empty net.

Naismith sealed the win seven minutes from time, meeting a flick-on by Nikica Jelavic and slamming home a low shot past Enckelman.

Rangers went top for the first time since Dec. 26, but Glasgow rival Celtic can regain the lead if it beats Hibernian on Wednesday in its game in hand.
