Former U.S. national team star Tab Ramos will lead the American Under-20 team on a two-game trip to France this month in place of Thomas Rongen, who has been removed as coach after failing to qualify for the World Cup.

Ramos, a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, played for the U.S. at the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. The U.S.-Under 20s play exhibitions in France on May 13 and 20.

U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Neil Buethe said Thursday that Ramos is not considered to be the interim coach. Rongen remains under contract to the USSF for the remainder of the year.

The U.S. lost 2-1 at Guatemala last month in the quarterfinals of regional qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup, to be played in Colombia from July 29 to Aug. 20.
