Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid will soon forget about the Supercopa de Espana defeat to Atletico Madrid following a 1-0 (2-1 agg) loss on Friday.

Mario Mandzukic struck after just two minutes to give the home side the lead and Diego Simeone's men held on to lift the trophy and strike an early mental blow ahead of the new La Liga season.

But Ramos, while admitting he would've been delighted to lift the trophy, has dismissed the significance of the result and applauded Atletico for their efforts.

"Whenever we lose it is a sad day," the defender said. "We would've liked to have won the trophy but kudos to Atletico Madrid. "We leave the stadium relaxed. They scored the goal and the crowd pushed them forward - I congratulate them."

"We've had to handle defeat many times and you can't drawn any conclusions. The defeat will pass and we will have brighter days."
