Rallying cry from Morrison

Second-half goals from Youssouf Mulumbu, Morrison and Paul Scharner handed the three points to the Baggies, who face Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland and Chelsea in their next four Premier League games. "I'm delighted that I scored, delighted it was with my left foot and delighted that we got three points," Morrison told Sky Sports 2. "Arsenal's a tough game but we showed that fighting spirit today and if we take it into next week's game there's no reason why we can't beat Arsenal." Birmingham's goal, scored by Jean Beausejour, came barely 60 seconds after West Brom's opener. And Scharner conceded: "It looks like we lost a bit of concentration but we came back and won 3-1. "We tried everything. Congratulations to the whole team who fought to the end. We deserved to win." Baggies boss Roy Hodgson said the win was not solely down to Birmingham's Carling Cup hangover. He told Sky Sports 2: "It wouldn't be very generous if people say that. But who knows? For me it doesn't matter one way or the other. We needed to play as we needed to play and we did that. "We did it pretty much to the letter apart from conceding a goal so soon after going in front "Maybe we were a little bit lucky to catch Birmingham not at their best and therefore were able to win reasonably comfortably in the end." He continued: "I thought it was a very good performance all round. It's the players who score the goals or do the spectacular things that catch the eye but it was a very good defensive performance. "To use a cliche, they had their cup final last Saturday, this was going to be one of our cup finals and we've got to win them. "There's a lot of work to do. We play three of the teams in the top four, so there's a lot of work to do." Blues boss Alex McLeish, who was forced into a raft of changes following the cup win over Arsenal because of injury, was unimpressed with his players. "Schoolboy defending in the second half," he said. "(There were) a lot of changes made to the team, a lot of tiredness if I'm making excuses for my players. "I'm angry with the defending but there were a lot of changes. "I couldn't even put Nikola Zigic on. He's got a groin problem and the doctors said it would be a massive risk." Asked if the effects of the cup final had been detrimental to his team, he added: "I believe that entirely. "To lose five or six (players), enforced, was a big hurdle. But I thought some of our play was second rate."
