Bayer Leverkusen was relegated to group runner-up for the knockout phase of the Champions League after being held to a 1-1 draw by already eliminated Racing Genk on Tuesday.

Leverkusen was already through to the last 16 but will now face one of the competition's better teams in the next round after Chelsea took top spot in Group E with a 3-0 win over Valencia.

Racing Genk turned the tables on Leverkusen when Dugary crossed from the right and striker Jelle Vossen turned and hit a right-foot volley from the edge of the area past goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the 30th minute.

With 11 minutes to go, Leverkusen leveled when Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok received a cross from Sidney Sam and beat goalkeeper Laszlo Koteles with a low shot from 12 meters out.

Leverkusen furiously went looking for a second goal which would give it group victory. Striker Stefan Kiessling and Sam went close, but Koteles capped a fine game with good saves.

It was Leverkusen's first point away from home but it still was not enough.

The result meant Genk remained unbeaten at home with three draws, its home form contrasting sharply with its performances away following big losses at Chelsea and Valencia.
