Quito defeats Independiente 3-2

Defending champion Liga de Quito defeated Argentina's Independiente 3-2 on Thursday in the first-leg semifinal of the Copa Sudamericana.
Juan Manuel Salgueiro, Neicer Reasco and Miller Bolanos gave Quito a 3-0 lead before Lucas Mareque and Andres Silvera pulled two goals back to boost the Argentines' hopes of progressing after the second leg.
Palmeiras defeated fellow Brazil club Goias 1-0 victory in Wednesday's other first-leg semifinal in South America's No. 2 cup competition behind the Copa Libertadores.
Both second legs are next week.
