Pulis targets away-day improvement

The Potters go into Tuesday evening's match at Wigan in the Premier League unbeaten in 2010, with four wins and two draws in all competitions since the turn of the year. Those victories have all come at the Britannia Stadium and seen Stoke net three times in each, with Saturday's 3-0 triumph over Blackburn their biggest winning margin since their promotion back to the top flight in 2008. But Pulis' side are without a goal in five league games away from home and have not won on their travels since the end of October. The trip to the DW Stadium is one of three away appointments Stoke have in their next four fixtures and the manager is hoping his team can start showing the same clinical edge in front of goal at other grounds that they have done at their own. "We have been on a fantastic run at home, but we now need to start taking our chances in away matches," said Pulis. "Only Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa have conceded fewer away goals than this season, which shows we have been solid away from home. "While it is important we continue to do that, we have been creating chances and it's now time that we started to make at least some of them count." Stoke's recent results have lifted them to 11th in the table and they have games in hand over the teams immediately above them which could see them banish any lingering prospect of a relegation battle in the next few weeks and start to consolidate a place in the top 10. But Pulis has stressed that until the Potters have secured a total of 40 points - enough to virtually guarantee top flight survival - they will not be thinking of anything else. "We have got to get to 40 points, I think everybody will be wanting to get that," said Pulis, whose team moved to within 11 points of that tally with Saturday's win. "I think the sooner you get to 40 points then you can take stock, but 40 points is the target. "It's six games unbeaten which is good and if we can carry that on a few more games, get a few more wins, we will be delighted."
