Portuguese resent possible FIFA probe into '18 bid

Portuguese football federation president Gilberto Madail is annoyed at allegations FIFA is investigating its joint bid with Spain for the 2018 World Cup over the cash-for-votes scandal.
Madail is regarding any investigation with ''surprise and indignation,'' according to news agency Lusa on Thursday.
He also ''categorically denied'' a story in London's Daily Telegraph newspaper that the joint bid was colluding with Qatar to gain a voting advantage in the bid race.
Madail believes the ''unfounded suspicions'' could be part of a ploy to destabilize its bid. Russia, England and a joint effort from the Netherlands-Belgium are also bidding to host.
Qatar is against Australia, the United States, Japan and South Korea for 2022.
The vote to determine the hosts is on Dec. 2.
