FC Porto trounced Braga 5-1 to re-ignite its Portuguese league
title hopes while keeping its opponent from going top of the
standings.
Benfica, which was not in action this weekend, remained top
of the league with 49 points, one better than Braga, while
four-time defending champion Porto is third with 43 points.
Sporting is fourth with 29 points after Saturday's 0-0 draw at
Olhanense.
Also on Sunday, Pacos Ferreira beat Rio Ave 2-1 and Naval was
a 1-0 winner over Setubal.
Porto led 3-0 by halftime thanks to goals from Raul Meireles,
Alvaro Pereira and Radamel Falcao, who headed home his second in
the 73rd before Fernando Belluschi completed the rout in the 83rd.
Braga striker Alan headed home a consolation goal in injury
time.
Last-place Belenenses tackles Academica on Monday.
On Friday, Maritimo drew 1-1 with Nacional while Guimaraes
beat Leixoes 2-0 on Saturday.
