The Premier League says Portsmouth must pay Tottenham 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) following the aborted transfer of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

When the clubs agreed a fee for defender Younes Kaboul to join Spurs in January, they also agreed that Portsmouth would have to pay Tottenham compensation if Begovic - whose planned move to White Hart Lane later collapsed - left Pompey for another team.

Begovic eventually moved to Stoke but Portsmouth then went into administration and has since disputed whether it still owes Tottenham compensation.

The Premier League says Portsmouth, which is now in the League Championship, is obliged to pay 1 million pounds.
