Porto scores late to beat Benfica 1-0 in Portuguese league

PORTO, Portugal (AP) Midfielder Andre Andre scored in the 86th minute as FC Porto defeated Benfica 1-0 in the first match between the Portuguese rivals this season.
Andre Andre scored the winner from close range after a perfect pass by Silvestre Varela, igniting the crowd of nearly 50,000 fans at the Estadio do Dragao.
The result gives Porto a three-point lead over Sporting Lisbon and a four-point advantage over third-place Benfica. Sporting will play its fifth-round match on Monday against Nacional at home.
Estoril, which beat newly promoted Tondela 1-0 on Saturday, is fourth in the Portuguese league standings.

In other results Sunday, Uniao da Madeira drew Arouca 0-0 at home and Boavista defeated last-place Academica 2-0 in Coimbra.
