Peter Houston has left his position as Dundee United manager by mutual consent, bringing forward his departure from the Scottish Premier League club.

Houston, a former assistant coach with Scotland's national team, recently said he would not be renewing his contract with United when it ended in June.

Houston took charge in 2009 and led the club to the Scottish Cup title in 2010 and qualification to the Europa League for the past three seasons.

United is seventh in the 12-team standings.
