Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido insists the club have still not received any offer from Manchester City for Alvaro Negredo.

Negredo has indicated he would like to leave Sevilla this summer and has been closely linked with a number of clubs, including Premier League outfit City, whose new coach Manuel Pellegrini will know all about the Spain striker from his time in the Primera Division.

However, Del Nido said last week that City had not made a bid for the 27-year-old and he confirmed today there was nothing new to report with regards the prolific striker's future.

Speaking at the presentation of new Sevilla signing Nico Pareja, Del Nido said: "There hasn't been any change with respect to Negredo's situation.

"There hasn't been any communication between the English club and Spanish club, and Negredo is training with his team-mates and has three more years on his contract.

"There hasn't been any offer from Manchester City."

The 18-year-old left-sided defender started his career at Fulham before moving to Dagenham's academy set-up and will now look to push for a place in manager Wayne Burnett's first-team plans.

Burnett told the Daggers' official website: "Jack has come through the Academy with us and has impressed me with his performances and attitude.

"I hope he can carry on working hard and continue his progression with the club."

Connors has signed a one-year deal at Victoria Road.

Starnes started his new position on Monday having left the same role at Yeovil after almost six years with the Somerset outfit, culminating in May's promotion to the second tier having played League Two football as recently as 2005 and in the Conference just two years previous.

The 58-year-old, also formerly chief executive at Swindon, will now look to repeat that success with the Pilgrims, who were an established Championship team themselves in 2010 before back-to-back relegations to League Two, where they have narrowly avoided dropping out of the Football League altogether.

"Plymouth has a great catchment area, a big supporter base," Starnes told the club's official website.

"I think it has got a wonderful future and I have been given the opportunity to be part of it. I am absolutely delighted to be here.

"It is a fantastic club. I am aware, being a massive football fan generally, that Plymouth has had difficult times in recent years, going into administration.

"Recovering from that, I recognise, is difficult and James (Brent, chairman) and the board of Plymouth have presented me a rather unique opportunity to help to revitalise the club and move it back into the division it should be playing in, ie the Championship, and to do it with financial viability, which I am used to doing at Yeovil."

The defender suffered ankle ligament damage during Sunday's pre-season friendly against Brora Rangers at Dudgeon Park and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Perry was thrown into the action as a substitute at half-time but came off worst in a collision with Ryan Watson and left the pitch on a stretcher.

According to the club's website, the 23-year-old has been ruled out for "the foreseeable future", before adding: "At present, the Rangers management are resigned to being without him for weeks rather than days and that's a huge setback for manager Ally McCoist."

Better news for Rangers was the return of Andy Mitchell to training this morning after jarring his ankle at the weekend, while Sebastien Faure was also involved after missing the Brora clash through illness.

A double from Lewis Macleod helped secure a 2-0 win over the Highland League side and McCoist was also impressed with trialist Bilel Mohsni.

Asked if he could do a deal with the French-Tunisian, the Gers boss told Sky Sports News: "I hope so. I was very impressed with him actually.

"I thought he came in and looked solid with Emilson [Cribari] at the back and they mopped everything up that came their way.

"With the injury to Ross, we put him back on in the second half and he was very comfortable.

"He's a strong boy, he can handle the physical side of the game and there is certainly a physical aspect to the Scottish game.

"That won't be a problem for him - he will handle that fine."

Central defence is an area McCoist is keen to strengthen for the assault on the Second Division and he added: "If I could get two centre-backs, I would be delighted with that."

However, McCoist has confirmed his pursuit of Christophe Berra is now over.

He revealed last week the former Wolves defender was on his wanted list, along with Bosnian international Boris Pandza.

McCoist now expects Berra to remain south of the border but says Pandza is still on his radar.

The Light Blues boss told several newspapers: "The deal for Christophe is now off.

"There is nothing in that at all - I think he's going to a Championship club.

"The club is still taking to Boris Pandza's agent and I have spoken to the player.

"There's still a long way to go but he's a player we are interested in."
