Pardew and Bruce ready for derby

The 49-year-old will make the short trip to the Stadium of Light without star striker Andy Carroll and defender Steven Taylor, as well as suspended midfielder Cheik Tiote, for a game which means more than most to the fans. However, while he admits he cannot promise a repeat of October's 5-1 win at St James' Park, he is hoping the result is similar. Pardew said: "The one thing you can guarantee is it is not going to be the same result in terms of the scoreline, but we hope for the same result in terms of a win. "We can go there off the back of two wins in the Premier League confident, and that's what I hope to put on that pitch on Sunday, a team that is confident, that is assured of what they are doing and that can turn in a performance the fans will be proud of." Despite losing three key men, Pardew has added another body to the squad with summer signing Dan Gosling now available after recovering from the knee injury with which he arrived from Everton. The manager said: "He will definitely be in the squad and will feature on the bench, I am pretty sure of that. "I don't think I will start him because he hasn't had enough match practice, but he has shown already he is going to threaten the squad and hopefully burst into the team at some point." Sunderland boss Bruce was left with a huge repair job after the Black Cats' last trip to Tyneside, and he knows from personal experience how important it is not to be caught up in the hype surrounding the derby. He said: "The one thing when you have got a young team - and we were very, very young on the day - I honestly believe that you do get times when you get caught up in it. "I remember when I was 30 playing in my first FA Cup semi-final and it got to me big style. "After 10 minutes, I was a bag of nerves. The whole thing got to me. You can't concentrate, you seem to have no energy. "I remember in the Newcastle game, Jordan Henderson making his first run forward and then trying to get back. It was like pulling a caravan - and that was in the first 10 minutes. "That was just the occasion, and that's sometimes what happens. It gets to you, you get a bit nervous, you get a bit edgy, you lose concentration, and before you know it, the game has gone. "Certainly, I am hoping we can learn from the experience of what we did last time. The young players, it will certainly help them, if that's the right word."
