The Throstles striker scored 15 Premier League goals last season to help Roy Hodgson's side to an 11th-placed finish. But having suffered an injury-hit start to this campaign, Odemwingie, who was a summer transfer target of Wigan, has netted just once in six games in all competitions. Appleton, though, thinks it is only a matter of time before the Nigerian is back to his best, as West Brom look ahead to facing Wolves at The Hawthorns after the international break. "Maybe Peter is trying a bit too hard," said Hodgson's right-hand man. "It's not a bad trait to have. "You'd much rather have someone working their socks off to try and get their form back rather than someone not really bothered and throwing their towel in, which can happen to certain players. "But if he keeps working hard and doing the simple things well, I'm sure something will happen, whether it's a goal that kick-starts him, some good play or setting up a goal for someone else. "The gaffer is right in a sense - you're looking at a player who got 15 goals last season. And those were crucial goals. When you have that kind of firepower and pace, then you're keeping the opposition stretched all the time. "No matter how well you're playing or not playing, the opposition will still know he is a danger, especially with his pace, more so away from home in many ways, as you tend to be more of a counter-attacking side." Appleton added: "Once you have a player who is gaining confidence then you have a dangerous tool."
