Norwich was promoted to the Premier League on Monday night after a six-year absence from England's top division.

Simeon Jackson scored in the 50th minute of a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth after third-place Cardiff was beaten 3-0 by Middlesbrough.

Norwich (23-8-14) clinched second place behind Queens Park Rangers (24-5-16), which on Saturday ensured it will win the League Championship title. But QPR could face a points-deduction after being charged by The Football Association with violating a ban on third-party ownership of players by signing Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009.

Cardiff, Swansea and Reading will be in the playoffs for the final promotion spot, joined by Nottingham Forest or Leeds.
