And the midfielder told the Evening Chronicle the paperwork will be done "next week or the week after". The news will be welcomed by Toon boss Alan Pardew - not least because Joey Barton recently allied his future to his skipper's, saying: "If Nolan signs, I will." Barton has been linked with the likes of West Ham and Liverpool having voiced his concern at the January sale of Andy Carroll. Nolan, meanwhile, has a chance of returning from injury on Sunday against the Reds - the team he supported growing up on Merseyside.
