Nine-man Liverpool sunk at Spurs

Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice as Tottenham punished Liverpool's indiscipline by coasting to a 4-0 victory on Sunday, with the visitors having two players sent off in their second successive Premier League loss.
Luka Modric set the tone for a rampant Tottenham display by curling in a stunning opener off the crossbar after seven minutes.
Already sluggish, Liverpool's problems mounted when Charlie Adam was dismissed after a rash challenge on Scott Parker and Martin Skrtel saw red in the 63rd after being penalized again for fouling Gareth Bale.
Spurs quickly took advantage of their two-man edge, with Jermain Defoe and Adebayor scoring inside two minutes.
Adebayor, the former Arsenal striker on loan from Manchester City, fired in the fourth in stoppage time on his home debut against a hapless Liverpool side.
Tottenham, unchanged from the side that beat Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, has now won back-to-back matches after losing its first two.
Tottenham maintained a high tempo throughout while Liverpool provided little threat.
Adebayor could have been on target much earlier had he made a cleaner connection with Niko Kranjcar's cross after two minutes and not missed the target.
The speed of Tottenham's early forays forward unnerved the visitors, who took just seven minutes to be breached.
A cross from Bale from the left reached Defoe on the edge of the penalty area. Although the forward was tackled by Jose Enrique, the loose ball fell to Modric and the Croatia playmaker curled the ball into the net off the crossbar.
It was Modric's first goal since his ultimately futile push to join Chelsea joining in the summer transfer window.
The pressure was relentless from Spurs with Bale tormenting Skrtel on the left - contrasting with his opposite number, Stewart Downing's, anonymity.
The opener was nearly replicated when another cross from Bale fell to Defoe, who teed up Modric again, but this time his shot was blocked.
Liverpool was struggling for time on the ball. When the Reds finally did get a shot on target - and find the net - after 18 minutes, Luis Suarez was ruled to have been offside after nipping in front of Ledley King and Younes Kaboul.
Even when Kenny Dalglish's side appeared to be making progress, Tottenham broke quickly on the counterattack.
Liverpool's problems mounted before the 30-minute mark when the injured Daniel Agger was forced off and was replaced by Sebastian Coates.
And almost from the restart, Liverpool lost another player when Adam was shown a second yellow card after landing his studs on Parker's shin, having already been booked for a foul on Modric.
Skrtel's struggles in keeping up with Bale resulted in a yellow card in the 36th for a challenge on the Wales winger. Coates was also booked for halting Adebayor's advance into the penalty area.
The match was a contrast to Liverpool's last visit to north London on Aug. 20 when Arsenal was beaten 2-0.
But starting his first game since then, Andy Carroll was starved for service as Tottenham overran Liverpool in midfield.
Suarez became the focal point of the Liverpool attack at the start of the second half with Carroll dropping back.
Spurs, who brought Rafael van der Vaart back from injury to replace Kranjcar, remained as dominant but also as wasteful in front of goal at the start of the second half.
The lead should have been doubled inside the first minute, but Defoe sidefooted the ball wide from 10 meters (yards) at the end of a sweeping advance by right back Kyle Walker and Adebayor.
After Skrtel saw red, Defoe did find the net in the 66th, ending his seven-year wait for a goal against Liverpool.
After latching on to Van der Vaart's pinpoint throughball, Defoe fought off Enrique and turned the defender before dispatching the ball into the bottom right of Pepe Reina's goal.
Van der Vaart and Defoe combined again for Tottenham's third inside two minutes, although this time the shot was parried by Reina.
Adebayor, though, was alert to pick up the ball and lifted it over Reina before tapping into the net.
Adebayor, who scored on his debut against Wolves last weekend, made it three goals in two matches in stoppage time when he brought down Benoit Assou-Ekotto's pass and fired the ball past Reina.
