Villarreal striker Nilmar is to undergo an operation on his injured right knee, the Primera Division club have announced.
The Brazil international will have arthroscopic surgery in the the coming days before beginning his recovery in Villarreal on January 6.
Villarreal have not confirmed how long they expect Nilmar, who is the Yellow Submarine's leading scorer in La Liga this season with 10 goals, to be absent for but reports in Spain suggest it could be at least a month,
The news comes after Villarreal's veteran midfielder Marcos Senna was ruled out for around four weeks on Tuesday with a hamstring injury.
