Nigerian soccer player Adefemi dies in Greece

Greek police say Nigerian soccer player Olubayo Adefemi has been killed in a car accident while on leave to get married.

The 25-year-old defender, who played for Greek club Xanthi, died Monday after skidding off a highway near the northern town of Kavala. No one else was hurt.

Adefemi was not selected for Nigeria's World Cup team last year, but played in the World Youth Championship in the Netherlands in 2005, when Nigeria lost in the final to an Argentina squad that included Lionel Messi.

The Nigerian moved to Greece last year after leaving French club Boulogne. He had also played at clubs in Romania, Austria and Israel.
