Newell's Old Boys opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Argentinian Apertura standings on Saturday night with a 2-1 home win over Arsenal.

Ignacio Scocco netted both goals in the first 25 minutes, with Carlos Carbonero's 75th-minute effort all the visitors could muster despite the dismissal of Newell's defender Gabriel Heinze for a second bookable offence on the hour.

Velez Sarsfield edged Racing Club 1-0 to leapfrog their opponents and take over in second spot, Lucas Pratto grabbing the game's only goal.

Atletico Rafaela climbed to ninth courtesy of a come-from-behind 2-1 success at 15th-placed San Martin San Juan.

Two goals in the final nine minutes turned the game on its head for after Emanuel Mas had put the home team ahead three minutes before the interval. Lucas Landa's own goal restored parity and then substitute Jonathan Lopez notched the winner.

All Boys prevailed 1-0 at seventh-spotted Estudiantes, Hernan Grana's strike midway through the second half proving enough to lift the victors to 10th position.

Finally, German Mandarino's stoppage-time equaliser earned Quilmes a 2-2 draw at third-bottom San Lorenzo in a match which saw both sides finish with 10 men.

The home team had looked on course for three points when Alan Ruiz and Luis Aguiar overturned Martin Cauteruccio's early opener, particularly after Cauteruccio saw his penalty in first-half stoppage time saved by Pablo Migliore.

But, after a frenetic finale which also saw San Lorenzo midfielder Julio Buffarini and Quilmes defender Cristian Lema sent off, Mandarino headed home to nick a point for the visitors.
