Newcastle has signed French midfielder Romain Amalfitano from Reims in the Premier League club's first transfer of the offseason.
The 22-year-old Amalfitano is joining for free because his Reims contract expires at the end of June.
He says ''when a club like Newcastle wants you to play for them it can only be a good thing. I have taken the opportunity to play in the Premier League and cannot wait to get going.''
Amalfitano had been at Reims since 2010.

Newcastle exceeded expectations last season, finishing fifth in the Premier League to qualify for the Europa League.
