Leon Best's second-half double guided Newcastle to a 2-1 victory over Fulham at St. James' Park and a second straight win in the Premier League.
Making his first start of the season, the Ireland striker tapped in from close range in the 48th minute after Yohan Cabaye's shot rebounded back off the bar before grabbing his second with a poked shot from 12 yards (meters) in the 66th.
United States midfielder Clint Dempsey's 88th-minute header from Danny Murphy's free kick ensured a tense finale but Newcastle held on.
The result followed up a 1-0 win at fierce rival Sunderland and moved the unbeaten northeast club level on points with Liverpool, Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers after three matches. Fulham has just one point.
