Napoi president Aurelio De Laurentiis admits that it could be a good move for Javier Mascherano to join from Barcelona amid reports of a loan switch.
Mascherano, who featured 38 times in all competitions last season, has been linked with an exit from the Nou Camp, although Barcelona have recently insisted that they do not plan on allowing him to leave.
The 29-year-old has been linked with Napoli, alongside a host of other European clubs, and De Laurentiis says that the Stadio San Paolo could be a good destination if he is not guaranteed regular football in La Liga.
"Given his age it would not be a bargain, but an investment," he told the Italian media.
"So it depends on Barcelona and on what they want to do. If the player has to rot on the bench it is better they give him on loan to Napoli."
Napoli have also been linked with Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons and Sandro from Spurs, but De Laurentiis says that moves for either appear to be unlikely at the minute.
"I won't talk again about football with (John-Michel) Aulas (the Lyon chairman). If he wants to sell Gonalons he must do at our terms, otherwise the player can remain at his home," he said.
"Sandro? There have been too many names but no one really knows who we are following. Surely we need a midfielder and a forward having already taken a centre back (Kalidou Koulinaly)."
