Steven Naismith's first-half goal gave Rangers a 1-0 win over Bursaspor at Ibrox on Wednesday to maintain the Scottish champions' unbeaten start to Champions League Group C.

The Scotland forward clipped home a neat finish in the 18th minute for the winner, which ended Rangers' run of 13 Champions League matches without a win.

Lee McCulloch and Kenny Miller went close to extending the home side's lead, while Bursaspor piled the pressure on in the second half without any end product.

The Turkish club is still without a point in the group, but Rangers is level with Manchester United on four points after building on its 0-0 draw at Old Trafford a fortnight ago.

Buoyed by a sixth successive win in the Scottish league at the weekend that kept the team top of the table, Rangers started well and was rewarded with a well-taken opener by Naismith.

A diagonal crossfield pass by Steven Whittaker was met with a header back into the area by Kirk Broadfoot and Naismith nipped in front of goalkeeper Dimitar Ivankov to flick home a finish from six yards for his first Champions League goal.

McCulloch headed narrowly wide from a corner by Steven Davis as Rangers threatened a second but the hosts finished the half on the back foot, with Gokcek Wederson and substitute Federico Insua testing home goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Ivankov denied Miller with his feet in the first minute of the second half as Rangers regained control, before United States midfielder Maurice Edu dragged a shot just wide in the 54th at the same end.

The hosts were forced to hold on in the final 30 minutes as the Turkish champions pressed forward but McGregor was not seriously tested.
