Ferguson celebrates 25 years at the United helm this weekend and has won a staggering 37 trophies during his time with the club. Mourinho proved to be one of the Scot's most formidable opponents in the Premier League, having had a hugely successful spell as Chelsea boss between 2004 and 2007. Now at Real Madrid, the Portuguese tactician is regarded as one of the likeliest candidates to succeed Ferguson when he eventually decides to step down. Ferguson turns 70 in December but Mourinho hopes he will stay in the Old Trafford hotseat for a long time. "Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of Manchester United," Mourinho said in The Sun. "Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of English football. "And Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of European football." Mourinho added: "I really wish he stays in the job with the same happiness and ambition for many, many more years."
