Togo coach Didier Six and the country's football federation are battling over expenses of about $128,000 that the Frenchman says he incurred while traveling in Europe to scout possible players.
Six, who has had a troubled relationship with the federation and some of his senior players - most notably Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor - told The Associated Press that he has given the FTF an ultimatum to repay him or he will quit.
Six said he recently traveled in Europe for a scouting mission that was ''known to everybody.''
''I do not really understand the behavior of people who are managing the FA,'' he said. ''I didn't go on the tour to please myself.''
Federation spokesman Amavi Patatou countered that if the trip was on Togo team business then Six ''should give us the list of the new players he detected during his tour.''
Patatou questioned some of the money spent on hotels and train tickets and said the federation was not worried about Six's ultimatum, which he said it was ''used to.''
Six has often clashed with Togo's football leaders since he was appointed on a permanent basis last year. He initially left Adebayor out of his squad for this year's African Cup of Nations only for the striker's selection to be forced on him by the federation after Adebayor returned from a self-imposed exile from the national team.
Adebayor then went public with stinging criticism of Six after Togo's quarterfinal elimination at the tournament in South Africa, saying the coach didn't help the team at all and was ''not an advantage.''
Six was expected to leave after the African Cup but has clung onto his job. However, with Adebayor once again boycotting the national team, Togo is last in its World Cup qualifying group and without a win in three games.
