Morata commits future with Juventus, pens new contract

Published Dec. 10, 2015 1:05 p.m. ET

Striker Alvaro Morata has extended his commitment to Juventus, signing a new contract which runs until the summer of 2020.

The Spanish striker's previous deal ran until 2019. The defending Serie A champions announced news of the deal on their website.

"Alvaro Morata has extended his relationship with Juventus," a statement said. "The Spanish striker, whose previous agreement expired in 2019, has signed a new contract with the club for another season at Juventus, expiring on June 30 2020."

The Spain international has scored 18 goals in 65 appearances since joining Juve last summer, although he has only three goals in 19 outings this campaign. Morata has struggled to replicate that form this season, finding the net just once in the league and losing his place in Massimiliano Allegri's starting XI.

Speaking last week, Allegri said: "Morata is an extraordinary player and needs to remain calm. I ask a lot of him, but the same goes for the rest of the team."

Morata joined Juve from Real Madrid in 2014 and was subject to a buy-back clause, but it is not clear whether his new contract will affect any such arrangement. Juve sits fifth in Serie A and faces high-flying Fiorentina on Sunday.
