Monk soldiering on for Swans

The 32-year-old made his first appearance of the season in the Swans' crucial 3-0 weekend success over West Brom on home soil. Swansea have a tricky-looking trip to Chelsea on Saturday, but Monk knows it is a case of putting the team's needs first at Stamford Bridge. Monk picked up a foot problem at the back end of last season and he concedes that in an ideal world he did need more time to recover. "We all know I'm not 100 per cent, but it is needs must at the moment," Monk told the South Wales Evening Post. "We've had a difficult couple of weeks with injuries and things so we just have to try to get through it. "If we had a fully fit squad I have to admit - and I am sure the gaffer will say the same - I probably would not have played last Saturday. "In an ideal world I would have liked to have had two or three more weeks to recover. "But things happen and you've got to put the team and the club first."
