Struggling Borussia Moenchengladbach has fired coach Michael Frontzeck.

Frontzeck was dismissed after the team's latest defeat - a 3-1 loss at St. Pauli on Saturday - left it seven points short of safety at the bottom of the table.

Sports director Max Eberl says ''we had to rethink the situation.''

Moenchengladbach has only 16 points from 22 matches. It has conceded 56 goals - easily the division's worst defensive record.
