Rotherham have been thwarted in their attempts to sign Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs.
The 28-year-old, who worked with Millers boss Steve Evans when the pair were at Crawley, has been tracked all summer by his former manager.
The Cherries turned down several bids, reported to be close to ?500,000, in the summer and they have now rebuffed a loan offer from the League Two club.
Evans said: "We are taking defeat on the chin with regard to Matt Tubbs.

"We have tried everything, we made a financially good offer and also a good loan offer but full credit to Paul Groves (Bournemouth manager) and Eddie Mitchell (chairman), they have said he is not available and is a big part of their plans."
