Mick still hopeful of survival

Wolves had been going great guns before heading to St James' Park but are still deep in the relegation mire after Birmingham and West Brom both won. McCarthy told the club's website: "Last weekend was our biggest defeat and the worst set of results against us that we've had all season. "It was probably on a par with our poorest performance in terms of how we've been playing and yet we've gone being off safety on goal difference to being off safety by a point. "We're one point worse off than we were, so it hasn't done us too much damage. We're in the bottom three and we've just lost one in six and we've had a great run of games. "The worry would be if we'd had too many performances like that. It was a one-off, a blip and we gave goals away and if you give goals away, you can't win games."
