Former Denmark midfielder Michael Laudrup has been appointed coach of Mallorca.

In a statement on Friday, Mallorca said Laudrup has signed a two-year deal with the Balearic Island club.

Considered one of Denmark's best players, Laudrup made 104 appearances for his country before retiring after the 1998 World Cup. His playing career included stints at Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

After spells as coach of Danish club Brondby and assistant coach on the national team, he coached Spanish club Getafe during the 2007-08 season. In April 2009 he was fired from his post as coach of Spartak Moscow.
