Argentine midfielder Christian Gimenez scored a second half goal to give Cruz Azul a 1-0 win over America on Sunday for their first victory over the Eagles since 2003.
In other matches from the 10th round of the Mexican Apertura: Pumas got a 1-0 victory over Morelia; Chivas rallied for a 2-2 draw with Atlas; and Puebla downed Queretaro 2-0.
Gimenez scored with a powerful shot from 25 meters in the 52nd minute as the Blue Machine broke a 16 match winless streak against archrival America.
Cruz Azul now has 24 points to lead the Mexican tournament after 10 rounds, followed by Monterrey with 22 and Santos with 21.
America lost for the second time in three weeks and stayed on 15 in third place in Group 2.
In Guadalajara, Nestor Vidrio conceded an own goal in the 90th as the Chivas drew for the second week in a row.
Flavio Santos scored in the 24th and Gerardo Flores in the 73rd for Atlas, while Mario de Luna added a strike for Guadalajara in the 31st.
Chivas, with just one win in the last six rounds, has 11 points, for fourth place in Group 1.
Earlier in Mexico City, Paraguayan Dante Lopez beat Morelia goalkeeper Federico Vilar in the 63rd as the Pumas broke a four match winless streak. Morelia lost for the fourth time in a row.
Also on Sunday, Uruguayan Andres Olivera scored in the 12th minute and Rodrigo Salinas in the 70th for Puebla, which was coming of three straight losses.
