Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has confirmed he will be staying at the club after a summer of speculation linking him with Arsenal.

The 25-year-old centre-half has been linked with a switch to a number of clubs, with the Gunners rumoured to be interested in his signature.

But the Germany international, who was part of Joachim Low's side that finished third in the World Cup, has now revealed he will remain at the Weserstadion.

"I'm staying at Bremen," Mertesacker told German daily Bild.

"There have been so many rumours concerning me, but I've never had to be concerned because none were concrete."

Mertesacker moved to Bremen from Hannover 96 after an impressive showing in the 2006 World Cup.

He is under contract with Werder until 2012, and will now be focused on improving Bremen's third-place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
