McLeish wants more from N'Zogbia

N'Zogbia's eye-catching form at Wigan earned him a move to Villa this summer, but he has struggled to make an impact since and was dropped for the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last Saturday after failing to turn up for medical treatment. He was restored to the team for the game at the Reebok Stadium and, having been pleased with the Frenchman's showing, McLeish now wants to see N'Zogbia really kicking on with his Villa career. "We are looking for him to be a great Aston Villa player and that should be his goal," McLeish said. "It is not about the finer things in life - the cars and the houses. "It is about the prestige, being a top player and playing well at a top club. That has got to be the goal for every one of these players. "Charles gave us a performance that we have been used to seeing from him over the years and we are looking for that kind of performance every week. "Then, when you get that kind of consistency, you can be called a top player." McLeish also reserved praise for Marc Albrighton, who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute by prodding in Gabriel Agbonlahor's cross. It was the 22-year-old's first goal of the season, a week after he had won his own place back in the side. "He probably came into the United game a wee bit surprised that he was starting, but the kid gave us a whole-hearted performance," McLeish said. "That is the least I would expect of any player, but there were signs in that game that he was getting his mojo back. "Then (against Bolton) it was all-round good stuff from him, culminating in getting a goal." Stiliyan Petrov doubled the visitors' advantage six minutes before the break with a strike that went in off former Villa man Gary Cahill. Ivan Klasnic reduced the deficit 10 minutes into the second half, but Wanderers could not salvage a point. As well as being their seventh defeat in eight home Barclays Premier League games, a 12th loss overall from 15 top-flight fixtures this term saw Bolton slump to the bottom of the table. Trotters boss Owen Coyle was concerned by the attitude of his side in the first half and feels it is vital the team does not let their position in the relegation zone inhibit their play. "I just want the players to care as much as I do about the football club and get out there, show what they are capable of and not play with fear," Coyle said. "The bottom line is that we are in the bottom three because we haven't got enough points, and there should be no fear attached to that. "We should be looking to address that, to be positive and to take the club out of that area."
