McLeish has an eye for quality

McLeish has held talks with club owner Carson Yeung's right-hand man, Peter Pannu, regarding his strategy for next month. The former Scotland boss would not reveal whether he is satisfied or not with the budget at his disposal. But a striker is a priority for McLeish who has already been linked with Robbie Keane, Ryan Babel and Jay Bothroyd. He will look for someone with special talent rather than just buy players to bolster the back-up strength of his squad. McLeish said: "We've got some targets and we are working on them. "We brought in a specialist number one in Ben Foster last summer and he has performed extremely well. "Now we are looking for specialists in other positions. "What I think you can do sometimes is buy four or five players when one of real quality would do. "That's what we're trying to identify. We've got some targets and we are working on them. "We're in talks about one or two things." Asked whether he was happy with what he heard in his meeting with Pannu, McLeish added: "You want me to say I'm not happy? I'm not going to say I'm not happy. "We're working together, needless to say, and we will continue to work together. "We will need to wait and see how much the players cost and everything. If it's too rich, it's too rich." Birmingham will look to produce another impressive result against one of the Premier League's leading sides in Saturday evening's home clash with Arsenal. Blues were unbeaten last season at St Andrews against the eventual top four and already this season they have beaten Chelsea and drawn with Manchester United. McLeish said: "We haven't embarrassed ourselves at all against any of the top teams. The evidence is there. "We've always made ourselves very difficult to beat and St Andrew's has been a bit of a fortress. "We have a good record here and have got a reputation of making it tough for people. "Arsene Wenger said that himself last time he was here and that is music to our ears. "Sir Alex Ferguson has said it and we've got to maintain that reputation at this place." McLeish added: "We played well at the Emirates earlier this season when losing 2-1. We were always in the game. "At St Andrew's we obviously have a spring in our step and feel a bit more confident. "Again we know that it's a potential Premier League champion that we're playing in Arsenal - but it won't stop our players having a go." McLeish is likely to field the side which drew 1-1 with the Red Devils in midweek and has no fresh injury worries. Former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb is likely to be amongst the substitutes.
